KYBA HISTORY

Keizer Youth Baskeball Association was started by Terry Williams, Larry Gahr, and other Keizer volunteers who wanted to provide a fun, safe environment for Keizer youth to learn the fundamentals of basketball.

KYBA TODAY

KYBA is governed and operated by a board of volunteers, who are passionate about basketball and providing a positive, safe and fun environment for the youth of Keizer and surrounding areas. KYBA regularly serves over 400 boys and girls during each season offering both Recreational play and Tournament Teams. Our Rec program is open to all boys and girls in grades 1st through 7th. For our Rec Program, everyone makes the team. Individual evaluations are held for each Rec participant typically around mid-October. Evaluations are conducted in a group environment prior to team selection as we do our very best to offer an even mix of talent on each team. Our Tournament Program is open to boys and girls in grades 5th through 8th who are looking for a more competitive experience. Tryouts are typically held toward the end of September for each grade and gender separately. Tryouts are conducted by KYBA Board Members, the Head Coach for the respective team, and McNary Basketball coaches (as available).

Our season runs from early November (first practices) to mid March (last week of games). First through seventh graders are placed on a team for the season. Each season kicks off with a series of clinics to receive instruction on fundamentals and drills. Each team practices a minimum of once a week throughout the season and will have a minimum of eight games. Our fifth through eighth graders are welcome to try out for competitive tournament travel teams (by grade). Those tryouts occur in late September to early October.
